High Tea Time

Welcome to WB TL
Before Wagh Bakri Tea Company started its first tea lounge in Mumbai there were none. Such sit in place  was unheard of. Gradually tea lounges came about in New Delhi and Ahmedabad. The company plans to have a chain of these lounges that are fast becoming a gathering place for the elite of the town.

Much like Indian Coffee Houses the places differ in offering a more posh and hush hush ambiance. The old infrastructure of  ICF with its unique charm is not there nevertheless the TLs offer fantastic meeting grounds over sizzling hot cup of Wagh Bakri Teas as well Ice Tea and a vast array of snacks.

The establishments could be found in many places in the World on lines of tea rooms. Being few in number these were closeted and frequented only by hangers on and connoisseurs.

These urban hangouts are not only for cheers they are excellent event venues, gathering and party  places. They are eatery of sorts. The places offer exotic WB teas apart from the usual fare.

Lets T it up - Party Guys

Sometimes I think tea companies should come up with some unique blends of this beverage for parties. The beverage could be hot and cold, a mix of dazzling cocktails with floral notes and fruity punch. Masala Chai could fit in the trendy parties with proper blending.

Tea trending is what can get rid of obnoxious booze/drug parties in case of young lot. I love drinks but would like to see it being balanced by lot of tea. Special snacks for these parties would be another good idea - foods that gel well with the brew.

All this requires an innovative approach. One good thing that is happening in India is the success of tea lounges. These could well substitute for bars as hangouts and their utility as short business rendezvous is amazing.

Discotheques and hookah bars serving this magic brew would also be welcome. Without alcohol you dance with the right steps.

Toa Chalo Chai Ho Jaye!
Gujarat in India leads in offering tea to clients, business partners and relatives. The chai in plate concept runs wide all over this state. This limits the brew intake to the right levels.

Like in Ahmadabad there are many City sit outs, chai carts and tiny shops that offer hang outs for the young collegians. These are good for distracting people from the lure of the hard liquor. Hic!

Remember T augurs health - Booze buggers health and wealth. Hic!

Tea Lounge - Creating a Sense of Comunity

The coffee houses in Jabalpur and elsewhere had a unique character and some still do.  One could laze around for hours and chat along over a cup of coffee and puffs of cigarette (No more puffs now). They became a meeting ground for groups till they where turned into family restaurants.

Any way this way or that way people still group around in many coffee houses like they used to do in the yesteryear. The coffee house drew and shaped the character of the people who became a community some with a purpose, some with a movement and some just whiling their time away.

This idea was adopted by the tea lounges that emerged in the recent times. Jonathan Spiel's tea lounge in NY has so impressed the entrepreneur that he was invited by a Kuwaiti businessmen to open a franchise in his country.

The tea lounges serve many varieties of teas steeped and brewed as per taste. Some also sell exotic loose form of teas to the visitors. Unlike the coffee houses with plain an simple decor the tea lunges are jazzed up to the tee. The fantastic ambiance emulates coffee shops in five star resorts that are the hanging grounds of jet set.

Wagh Bakri House has been at the forefront of this in India. The tea company has opened lounges in New Delhi & Mumbai. These keep all the promises that they make and are an instant hit with the youngsters. These popular tea lounges in India also serve cookies and light snacks like sandwiches and samosa. There is one more lounge in Mumbai at Bandra and one in Aurangabad City. More such joints are in offing.

The lounges sell fine tea blends including the masala chai spiced up with cardamom, lemon grass, ginger, cinnamon etc. The snacks list runs large and include traditional items like bhakerwadi, dhokla, khandvi besides paneer puff, chilli paneer roll, sandwiches, hot dog and burger etc.

Tea Consumption a changing paradigm

Globally tea consumption is a recent phenomenon. Well the brew was quite popular since ages in countries like China, some parts of India and rest of Asia. The habit started with consumption for health as a medicine in China. With the rising popularity it entered the domain of Chinese culture. Following greater consumption the beverage became a consumer product.

This happened in India as well whence the British popularized it and spread its consumption all over their territory. In most of the Asian countries tea has become part of daily lifestyle. For masses it has become a daily habit and addiction. The beverage has become a ritualistic aspect of daily living an inseparable part of life.

In spite of its popularity the brew faces tough competition from coffee as well as fancy cocktails that have recently flooded the market. Coffee rules the roost globally but tea consumption is rising as well. It is  making in roads into the adversaries domain.

With maddening varieties reaching the average drinker thanks to trendy packaging, tea is slowly making in roads as a lifestyle product. The trendy packaging with infusion of technology and modern blending methods has changed the paradigm. From a regular house hold product to lifestyle product the change has been brought about by innovative approach of tea houses. The gastronomic intervention introduced new recipes on lines of fancy coffee being sold in the shops.

The advent of tea lounge in the footstep of coffee houses has brought in instant popularity amongst the younger generation.Tea drinking has suddenly become an "In Thing". The modern lounges have revolutionized rest and recreation concept amongst the younger lot and office goers as well as the business class. The one stop joint for business meets, social gatherings, for hot tea beverages and yummy snacks with offerings of jet set ambiance...what more does one wish for. The drink that cheers now offers much more, not ignoring the health benefits that far surpass coffee.

Tea Lounge - Doorway to a relaxed cheerful ambiance

It is a bar no it is a coffee shop no you buy snacks here. Well it is a tea lounge. These places comes in various shapes and size. Some are created out of a barn or a garage while the rest are upmarket posh restaurants that serve tea in various flavors.

Wagh Bakri Tea Company has established to upmarket lounges one in New Delhi and other in Mumbai. These are bars where you can relax and sip the hot beverage. The choice is yours the tea company specializes in blending the finest leaves from all over India. These are processed and packed in hygienic conditions to be marketed in India and many other countries.

The five star lounges are plush with warm interiors and located uptown. They serve hot tea beverage ranging from Darjeeling to finest black tea from Assam. You can order instant premix, iced teas and masala chai the latter being a ranging concept all over the Globe.

In college days I used to frequent the coffee houses in Jabalpur. These were community places where you could sit for hours gossip, chat or fall into an intellectual discussion over a cup of coffee. Hence these houses were frequented by regulars mostly retired people, recluse and people who had nothing much to do. Well it was fun for us and we still do it but not most often.

This is what the tea lounges promise - a community place with an added advantage of modern decor and stylish ambiance. In things is what you would refer them as well more are to come. These are for those who like cheerful places with delicious hot beverages and not the murky dingy alcohol bars.
